Known as the Kinder to College (K2C) savings account, every kindergarten student at a public school can receive an early college scholarship with $100 already funded. It can be used at 2- and 4-year educational institutions.

Girls Inc. of Alameda County has been serving the Bay Area for over 60 years with a mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. At La Escuelita we work toward this mission by providing an after school program to scholars of all genders in all grades.

Activities:

• Academic Engagement: Literacy, STEM, Basic Career Exploration, Homework Support
• Healthy Living: Nutrition, Sports, Preadolescent Health
• Leadership Development: Confidence, Relationships with Peers and Adults, Positive Self and Community Images, Positive Risk-Taking

All Gender Programming: Due to the outstanding results of our literacy programming, Girls Inc. was asked by some partner schools to serve all genders, too, so all students can reach grade-level reading. We do so in same-gender settings.

The program is FREE and is every day after school until 6pm.

• Every Wednesday, La Escuelita offers 30 minutes of tutoring for scholars who are selected for additional enrichment or intervention. If your child is selected, your child's teacher will notify you. If you have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher!
• Succeeding by Reading provides weekly tutoring in reading for select La Escuelita scholars in grades 1-3. Their data shows that students who actively participate in their program show accelerated reading growth by the end of the school year.
• IngiteReading! provides daily virtual tutoring for 32 La Escuelita scholars (grades K-5) who need additional support in reading. The program takes place in the library during the first 30m of school every morning. Their data shows that students who actively participate in their program show accelerated reading growth by the end of the school year.
• Oakland Library is happy to provide access to tutor.com, a trusted resource for students and adult learners that offers live and FREE 1:1 tutoring in a variety of subjects

At La Escuelita:

• The Restorative Reading Rainbow Club is offered during 4th/5th grade lunch and is open to all 4th/5th grade students
• Participation in Rainbow Alliance is optional (scholars come when they want to) *All Clubs are optional
• Clubs are spaces where scholars meet to discuss interests and activities
• Parent permission is not required to be in a club during the school day
• You do not need to be LGBTQ to be in the Restorative Reading Rainbow Alliance
• We will be talking about ways to support LGBTQ scholars and families
• We will be talking about bullying prevention for everyone
• We will learn Restorative Justice Skills (community building, de-escalation, mediation)
• We will be reading poems, books, and materials from LGBTQ authors and poets
